Brighton Rocks ... the Socks!
Thanks to ace photographer Kristina Lloyd, we now have the first visual documentation of Rock My Socks Off in a bookshop!
Yesterday, KL peeked in at Waterstone's, Brighton, UK:
And her timing was brilliant: during the few minutes that she happened to be browsing the shop, someone evidently rearranged the erotica section, moving my book from its spine-out position on shelf A to a front-faced position on shelf B—placing it, coincidentally, right next to KL's five-star, best-selling classic, Asking for Trouble! (And with two Alison Tyler books as neighbors, to boot!) The mind boggles at the sheer good luck—or was it journalistic instinct?—that allowed Kristina, with camera serendipitously handy, to capture the "before" and "after" for me.
Rough-and-ready reporter Lloyd notes that "the shelves are right at the end of the fiction section, lowest 3 shelves. I had to kneel before them to do the pics. I enjoyed it!"
Thank you, Kristina!!

By the way—not that anything of this nature happened here—in reminiscing about my many years in the retail book trade, I seem to remember that our attitude toward customers rearranging our displays to feature their own and their friends' books was a thoroughly supportive one. In fact, as I recall, we positively encouraged this! (Mind you, I've been out of that end of the biz for a few years now, so my memory may not be 100% reliable.)
Ha, thank you! I am so intrepid!
The staff in Waterstones are lovely and mellow. I don't think they'd mind at all. And I thought it was important to welcome you to the shelves by putting you in a KL/AT sandwich.
Kristina, do you mean to say that you ... that is, did you ...? I am shocked, Kristina. Shocked ... and immensely grateful. ; )
Yes, but keep it under your fedora. And if anyone asks, it was just some crazy who looks like me, OK?
I really love Waterstone's Brighton -- rather sad that it's 60 miles away. I arrived here as a result of a Tweet by KL. I shall visit again (and buy the book, of course).
Welcome, Pierre! Thank you so much for adding to the rockin' Brighton festivities here ... and thanks in advance for future visits (and book buying)!
Wow! This is wonderful. I'm tickled for you. Congratulations! Really, really, REALLY, cool. :-)
Thanks, Neve! As is no doubt clear to one and all, I'm tickled as all get-out ... and it's all the more fun when friends share in the tickledness!
I *love* bookstore shelf pics featuring favorite authors! Hope to see more of these (and of course I'll keep an eye out at my own local bookstores).
Thank you, Confidant! Even if you don't spy my book, I hope your eye will enjoy its little outing.
